Ezo-deer Chamois story
More than 100,000 Ezo-deer are captured annually due to population adjustments in Hokkaido’s Ezo-deer conservation management plan.
It is true that the use of wild animal resources can lead to overhunting if not done carefully, but since they are captured with adjustments, the disposal of parts other than meat after mass capture is more problematic than such concerns at this time, and not using them is far more pitiful than refraining from using them.
The fi ber structure of Ezo-deer skin was not as good as that of other deer family.
Therefore, we introduced the deerskin “nameshi” technique, a traditional industry in Nara, and after repeated trial and error, we brought out the thin and soft texture of Ezo deer skin and “Ezo-Deer Chamois” was born.
